What Can Dental Crowns Do?
When referring to oral anatomy, the crown of a tooth is the portion that is visible above the gum line. Dental crowns are restorations that either partially or fully cover this part of a natural tooth. Crafted from biocompatible materials like metal, porcelain, or zirconia, crowns are tooth-shaped and can be supported by natural teeth or dental implants.
Treat Large Areas of Decay
While small cavities can be repaired with dental fillings, crowns are often necessary when decay affects a significant portion of a tooth.
Cover Fractured Cusps
Chips, breaks, and fractures weaken the structure of a tooth. A dental crown can reinforce the tooth and help prevent further damage.
Address Cracked Tooth Syndrome
This condition occurs when internal fractures lead to pain while chewing. In some instances, a crown can stabilize the tooth and halt the problem from progressing.
Protect Teeth Damaged by Bruxism
Habitual teeth grinding or clenching can cause significant wear and tear. Crowns can protect teeth affected by bruxism and reduce the risk of additional issues.
Restore Dental Implants
In addition to restoring natural teeth, crowns can also be attached to dental implants, achieving completely restored function and lifelike results.
Seal Root Canals
If the pulp of a tooth is infected, root canal therapy may be necessary. In many cases, a crown is needed to reinforce the damaged tooth and restore your bite to full function.
Enhance Your Appearance
Crowns can be used to cosmetically enhance your smile. These restorations can address chips, cracks, discoloration, and more.

Dr.Navid is an angel. I had a huge cavity and needed a route canal so bad I was in tears. He didn’t have any openings after my consultation but he saw how much pain I was in and told me if I could wait an hour or so and he would squeeze me in. My first route canal and I was so scared. He made me laugh to make me feel at ease. He is truly awesome and has great staff. 5 stars isn’t even enough ! I recommend him to all my friends/family.

On average, the cost of a crown at our practice can range from $500 to $2,000. We offer financing through CareCredit® and LendingClub® to help patients cover out-of-pocket costs. Because of the durability and longevity of dental crowns, most patients agree that the investment is more than worth the cost.
CEREC Technology & Same-Day Crowns
At Navid Family Dental & Associates in Peabody, MA, we are committed to using the most modern technology and techniques available in dentistry. To that end, we often make use of an advanced crown-milling machine to make temporary crowns, and sometimes permanent crowns, that naturally fit into our patients' smiles. Our CEREC machine can precisely craft a crown in the span of one dental appointment, which can save our patients time and money. While a CEREC crown may not be the best treatment option for everyone, we are happy to make this convenient option available to as many patients as possible.
Crowns and Dental Implants Experience the Gold Standard
Our Peabody dentists and periodontist have extensive experience with implant dentistry. Dental implants are a great treatment option for patients with a missing tooth. They are titanium rods that replace tooth roots and serve as support for restorations like crowns, bridges, or dentures.
When a patient is missing a single tooth, or a few non-adjacent teeth, the restoration attached to an implant is often a dental crown. Our implant-supported crowns are made of natural-looking porcelain that restores the appearance of your smile and the strength of your bite. We provide both temporary crowns to cover the implant while the gums are healing, and permanent crowns that can last for decades..
