Determining Your Candidacy For Sedation Dentistry

There are certain medical conditions that can impact your ability to safely receive sedation such as respiratory problems, heart disease, and pregnancy. Additionally, some medications may not pair well with sedation, so our team will carefully consider your unique case before recommending it.

It is important to thoroughly discuss your medical history, prescriptions, and alcohol use with our dental care team during your consultation so we can choose the safest option for you.

Our team believes in the importance of informed decisions, so we will fully explain your options to you before proceeding with a treatment plan. You can contact our Peabody, MA, dental office to learn more about your candidacy.

Your Sedation Options Patients of our Peabody, MA, dental practice have the option of selecting from two different forms of sedation. The type of sedative we recommend will depend on your procedure, as well as your preferences and medical history.

Woman wearing a nitrous mask

Oral Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is administered in the form of an anxiety pill. Our dentists will write you a prescription for the medication which you can fill prior to your appointment. We typically recommend you take this pill about half an hour before your treatment. However, we may instruct some individuals with extreme dental anxiety to begin the medication as early as the day before. The effects of oral sedation last longer than nitrous oxide, so you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

Woman wearing a nitrous mask

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a clear, almost odorless gas that is inhaled to produce feelings of calm and tranquility. Before your procedure, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose to administer the gas. This mask allows our dentists to carefully and safely control the level of sedation. Since the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly once the mask is removed, many patients drive themselves home after their procedure.

Breaking Down Your Payment Options

Sometimes, the cost of dental treatment can make patients just as anxious as the treatment itself. Our team can help by guiding you through payment options like:

Dental Insurance

Typically, dental insurance will only cover sedation dentistry if it is medically necessary for your treatment. Examples of such treatment include dental implants and tooth extractions. Even if your sedation or medication isn't covered, dental insurance may still cover the treatment itself.

CareCredit Financing

We accept CareCredit®, a trusted and well-known lender for medical financing. They allow dental patients to split the costs of their treatment into a more manageable plan, so that they do not have to stress about affording the care that they need. We can help you explore your eligibility.

In-House Financing

Prefer to request financing from a team you know and trust? Our Peabody, MA, office features its very own affordable in-house financing plan to help you spread out payments. Contact our friendly team to learn more about eligibility, coverage, and how the process works.
